The 3 cover scans you
see here show the only 3 vinyl 45's they ever released. They had a picture sleeve which was actually just an inlay card in a plastic sleeve. |

WELCOME to

The SLAVES were a truly
international band and Europe's most awesome garage band, with a sound that would make the Pretty Things jealous. They influenced the Swiss band scene greatly for years to come. |
|
THE SLAVES - Although
often listed under Swiss garage bands they were an expat band from Vienna/Austria. However, they were deeply entrenched in the local band scene. Two Swiss musicians played with the SLAVES for a while: Jelly Pastorini (of later SHIVER fame) and Peter Rietmann (of DYNAMITES and SAUTERELLES fame) on bass. The core band members, however, were from Austria (see line-up list below). But the band lived, played, recorded and released their records in Zurich / Switzerland - at least until they were forced to leave Zurich due to the use of "forbidden substances". At that time they withdrew to Austria and their careeer was just about through... |

The SAUTERELLES
released quite a few of
45rpm singles and 2 LPs. The quality of the material
differs greatly. On the
whole, the group was
over-rated and hyped

All of the SLAVES'
records (three 45rpm
singles only) were
recorded and released
exclusively on the Philips
label in Switzerland - so
this is where you would
look for them. But expect
to pay sky-high prices
because these vinyls are
practically impossible to
find. One reason is that
Philips released all three
of them at once which
was a bit dumb and
certainly did not promote
sales. |
|
In the eighties, a few of
their tracks were included
on unlicensed 60s garage
samplers. The tracks
"Slaves Time" and "Panic" were also released on an official Austrian LP sampler (ont he Fontana label) from 1966 entitled "Beat International". |

Above: On Feb. 1 and 2,
1966, the SLAVES and the
SEVENS co-starred at the
famed TRISCHLI, a dance
club in St. Gallen. The ad

original newspaper
clipping.

Die Zürcher Beatband THE
